Harlem Media Institute is an Inter-generational cultural think tank nonprofit whose mission is to address the acute socioeconomic and technology disparities of Harlem's residents, arising from rapid urban expansion and meteoric technology developments by:
Convening Harlemβs residents, scholars, artists, teens, post-secondary and graduate students, researchers, entrepreneurs, activists, policy analysts, professionals across sectors, tech gurus and public intellectuals, to develop measurable best practices for Harlem's communities and stakeholders. We see tremendous reciprocal benefits for network building and research when they are combined to:
β’ Design and implement initiatives that build cohesion between legacy and gentry residents, entrepreneurs, and businesses, to address their emergent tensions. HMI is committed to identifying and addressing thorny issues at the intersections of gentrification; the sociological implications of technology, media literacy, media monopoly and entrepreneurship; providing and encouraging research that can ground informed, evidence-based, public debates, and build a network of researchers and practitioners who can anticipate issues and offer insight and direction;
β’ Develop mentor/mentee relationships; produce innovative and impactful initiatives, fellowships, workshops and focus groups, and apply interdisciplinary theories and mixed-methodology research to produce broad perspectives and best practices; and produce scholarship and white papers;
β’ Strengthen the work of HMI by the diversity of our team members and networks, which include our differences in ethnicities, race, gender identity, culture, sexual orientation, age, life experiences, and much more. HMI is committed to making certain that the vast array of perspectives are heard, and that our research is publicly available.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve conditions. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
